I’m old enough to have been a four year old seeing a certain golden coach go by on 2nd June 1953 – this is pitch perfect, thank you, though in truth I’m no royalist.
She was outstanding and a very strong woman! It wasn’t how her parents had pictured her life when she was born. But for the country her father and she following him have been far better than the Nazi-sympathizing uncle of hers. I am living in a republic, but I am full of respect for her. Her diplomatic skills, her humour (who doesn’t remember her EU-hat?) – Ma’am was one of a kind. They don’t grow them like that anymore.
Nice one!
No one like Liz for diligence and duty.
Besides being home schooled she could converse in French. And despite all that time on the throne and sitting for portaits and the like, she lived in a time before television but she used that social media to great effect. Early on the email but late to IG. Hmm, didn’t know that. Thanks WR for the fun facts.
Put your feet up, ol’ gurl an’ haf a lovely cuppa.
Wonderful life summary. That it quite the accomplishments list.
While I respect all the popular affection for the Queen but question the idea of hereditary royalty or by devine right (your fantastic parodies notwithstanding). Not to mention the billions of dollars of inherited wealth with limited tax remittance for the benefit to her loyal subjects who may well freeze this winter.
Aside: I had no idea email existed when I was 13! I know the bones of the Internet existed (as DARPANET or something along those lines) in the late ’60s and early ’70s, but that’s as far as my knowledge bank goes (unless I look it up on Wikipedia, which I have not).
Anyway, thank you for the wonderful In Memoriam cartoon. Elizabeth II was certainly an outstanding person.
I am at loss for words – she was such an outstanding lady.

I’ve never been a monarchist myself, but there’s no denying her impact and the important place in history she holds.

Such a touching and informative tribute, sir.
