I see that our neighbors to the north also celebrate “Talk Like a Pirate Day!”
Either that, or that loon had way too much “Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum” fun.

I think it’s coming up next month.

I see that you’re taking your cues from the retail industry, John! It’s not even September, and already stores have Halloween displays and “pumpkin spice” products on their shelves!
I’m now half expecting a wave of “early” Christmas-related Wrong Hands cartoons to be released in the coming weeks.

Ha! If only I were that organised and productive. Half expecting pop up Christmas trees lots to start appearing.

One of our grandsons produced a sentence for writing practice, to include certain words. His sentence was “The pirate said ‘Are, are’.” The Grammar Police are looking for a would-be pedant pirate…

Sorry to bother – as a non-native speaker I need some help with this one.

A doubloon is an ancient gold Spanish coin most closely associated with pirates. Hope this helps.

Also, not a bother at all.

I am totally lost. I know what a doubloon is but still don’t get the word play.

It’s mostly a rhyme. There is a loon bird and there is a loon bird that is speaking like like a pirate and pirates are often portrayed as having and/stealing gold the coins known as doubloons

Just out of frame, nearby is Long John Silver’s parrot, named Captain Flint, saying, “pieces of eight, pieces of eight…”

Ah, yes, the haunting call of the Doubloon echoing across a northern Canadian lake. I remember it well.
