π€πΉπEmily Dickinson -famous and acclaimed today, obscure poet in her lifetimeβonly 10 of her poems known to have been published while she was aliveβbut she was highly regarded as a baker!
Her father would only eat bread that she had baked.
Recluse though Emily was, children in Amherst (MA), lived from 1830 to 1886 (only left on three occasions), would stand in the yard beneath her bedroom window as she lowered baskets of her freshly baked gingerbread.
Emily was especially known for her black Caribbean Christmas cakeπ. Houghton Library at Harvard University owns Dickinsonβs handwritten recipe and the tradition of baking her cake continues today…
Every Christmas season, my dear old Dad would polish up a silver tray, decant some oloroso Sherry into a crystal decanter; upon the tray he would place 3 crystal sherry glasses, 5 slices of light colored fruitcake (moistened with the above noted sherry)on a crystal plate and a spring of holly. Replenish as needed.
Hahaha.π€£π
Do you get fruitcake as a gift?!

Were you traumatized by fruitcake as a child?!
How is History similar to a fruitcake? Both are full of dates.
Did you hear the one about the German who couldn’t find his fruit cake? It was Stollen.
Why do some firmly disagree with putting fruit in the cake? There’s just no good raisin for it
Why do the Italians give Panatone? For their sins

Yep. When I was younger and able to bake, I made delicious fruitcake! It does exist, I just wish more people were aware of that. π
