For the last 10 years, every time I wanted to watch the Perseid meteor shower it’s been raining or overcast or obscured by wildfire smoke the entire time … also, I too lived in Vancouver.
Overcast is a disappointing moment. It depends upon perspective – POV. Why feel smaller than the event?
And the clouds usually clear to reveal the astronomical phenomenon: unless it is volcanic ash – then all bets are off! And no Rings of Fire…
I remember Sept ‘61; huge letdown.

Finally I have some powerful binoculars to look at this C/22 green comet….. but after all these years my eyes and shaking hands are letting me down!
