Shakespeare’s works had many female characters portrayed as subordinate, simple-minded, or overly sexual, and some, to his credit, strong-willed buy labeled ‘nasty’.
Will reflected the deeply patriarchal society of his time.

At least Petruchio is a comic figure, continually making the audience laugh. Though we laugh with Petruchio as he โtamesโ Kate, we also laugh at him. That’s some equality.
